The Brooklyn Studio LEGO set was originally developed as a holiday gift for the firm’s clients and collaborators. Based on popular demand, The Brooklyn Studio set is now available for purchase. Proceeds from the sale of each set will be donated to the Historic Districts Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of historic neighborhoods, buildings, and public spaces in New York City.

Comprised of 339 pieces, the set follows a loosely defined geography of Brooklyn, spanning from Carroll Gardens to Prospect Heights. Rendered in miniature, from left to right, are the Carroll Street Bridge and Bridge Tender’s House (completed 1889), the National Packing Box Factory (completed 1889), the Gowanus Canal (dredged 1860s), Park Slope brick and brownstone rowhouses (built c. 1870 – 1895), Park Slope limestone rowhouses (built c. 1890 – 1915), Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Arch (completed 1892), and Prospect Park (completed 1873).

The release of The Brooklyn Studio LEGO set coincides with the firm’s twenty-fifth anniversary. “Our firm was founded in 1997 on the top floor of my parents’ brownstone in Cobble Hill,” says founding partner Brendan Coburn, FAIA. “Brooklyn is our home, and the values of this exceptional place are woven into our DNA. This Brooklyn streetscape is an ode to the borough’s historic fabric, which continues to provide us with an endless source of inspiration.”

  • Each set comes in custom packaging with step-by-step building instructions.

  • To add a measure of realism, the Carroll Street Bridge can be placed in its fully retracted position, where it has sat, in real life, for the last 20 months.

The Brooklyn Studio set was designed by Steve Mayes, founder of Brick This, an independent design studio based in the United Kingdom. Many of Mayes’s sets portray cities and landmarks throughout the UK, including Newcastle upon Tyne, Manchester, Durham, and York. “The Brooklyn set was a logical extension of my previous designs,” says Mayes. “I hope it brings a lot of joy to those who build it.”
